In de eerste maanden van 2007 is binnen de de Programmacommissie van het NWO Onderzoeksprogramma Urbanisatie & Stadscultuur - in nauw overleg met de projectleiders van de in uitvoering zijnde vijf projecten - gesproken over de invulling van de geconstateerde lacunes, over versterking van de cohesie tussen de projecten en over de wijze waarop via seminars en (internationale) congressen daaraan tegemoet gekomen zou kunnen worden. De PC heeft gekozen om het komende jaar het onderwerp: de (economische) aantrekkingskracht van steden centraal te stellen en voor de programmatische invulling daarvan, de onderzoekers Leo Lucassen en Wim Willems uit te nodigen daarvoor een uitgewerkt voorstel te doen. Het hier gepubliceerde document is intussen alle gremia gepasseerd en vormt het uitgangspunt en inhoudsopgave van een in 2009 te verschijnen boek, waarvoor op dit zowel binnen als buiten het programma auteurs worden gezocht.

. Wonen - thema Week van de Geschiedenis 2007 De week van de geschiedenis (13-21 oktober 2007) staat in het teken van 'wonen in Nederland'. Veel Nederlandse collecties in het IISG hebben met dit thema te maken, die van de kraakbeweging in het bijzonder. Maar ook materiaal over volkshuisvesting, stadsvernieuwing, communes en andere idealistische woongemeenschappen is op het IISG te vinden. Hieronder is een kleine selectie bijeengebracht.

Tijdens het seminar georganiseerd door AMIDST in het kader van het NWO Programma Urbanistie & Stadscultuur dd. 1/11/2007 is gesproken over de deelname van het programma aan de pilot-call van URBAN-net. URBAN-net is een ERA-net waaraan elf Europese landen - met in totaal 14 onderzoeksfinanciering en onderzoeksondersteunende partners - en UN Habitat samenwerken op het terrein van duurzame, stedelijke ontwikkeling.
